AN APPLE A DAY Emraan Hashmi may not be a great cook but he loves home food
So, here is another face of this famous film star, or if you agree, infamous `serial kisser' Emraan Hashmi. A face that very few people know about. He is innately shy. And a very private person. He explains it, "I am largely a reserved person. And films are a part of my professional life only. I prefer to eat alone in my room or with people I am close to. I am little old fashioned that way. Khana sukoon se khana pasand hai aur voh bhi ghar ka," he says with a smile as he bites an apple, which is part of a "light lunch". And the very next moment, he gives a mischievous smile, "You know, I just don't like fruits! But for health reasons, I have to consume them sometime."
So what does he like, or prefer to eat? "Simple chawal, roti, salad and that peeli dal. I don't know its exact name. But people at home say that is malka masoor ki dal. And I love to eat with my hands. Given a chance, I won't even touch knife and fork. I eat with hands at home. I am a true Indian you know," he laughs. And he truly believes that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. "I am certainly a patient eater. I don't usually complain that food is good or bad. But one can make out whether I liked the food or not through my intake of it."
Bad cook?
A "miserable failure at cooking", he did once try to help out in the kitchen at his home, never to go there again. "I tried to cook peeli dal in a pressure cooker and poured a lot of water. It almost blew up when I called my maid to help me out," Emraan laughs, admitting that cooking is not his cup of tea. Never mind if it means that the tag of being a metrosexual man is taken away from him! "I don't think I need to cook to become one. She (his fiancé, Parvin Sahani) will take care of it," he says with a naughty smile.
Though he never has been "much of a party animal", he likes to freak out after hectic schedules of shooting for many films. Incidentally, his latest, Dil Diya Hai is kissing the silver screen this Friday.
"Now I don't mind hanging out with close friends in parties. I find it relaxing. I usually don't eat in such parties. I prefer to come back home for a quiet dinner," says Emraan whose all time favourite is Chinese and Thai food after the desi fare.. "Whenever I go abroad, I choose the safest food, something that I get in India too. Just to find out how different we make it and sell it as authentic," he philosophises. A few months away from marriage, Emraan prefers two things now: good food cooked by his would-be wife and films with no kisses!
Scared of something? "Not really. But I am tired of doing such roles. I actually don't want to do kissing scenes anymore. They are proving counter-productive. They now overshadow my other better scenes. That way I liked Killer and Gangster. It was such a good feeling not to repeat what people always hope me to do in my films."
And if he will have to impress his wife through his cooking... "I will make omelette, instant noodles, tea... " he counts, as he concludes his "cooking talks" with a clincher, "if someone were to impress me, she would have to be too good at preparing dessert. I have a big, big sweet tooth!"
