Yesterday Microsoft announced that the latest installment of the ever popular Halo franchise has been renamed from Halo 3: Recon to Halo 3: ODST, after the orbital drop shock troops that will be the games main protagonists in their efforts to eliminate the Covenant at New Mombasa.

“We are incredibly excited to tell a thrilling new story from the Halo universe and bring the perspective of new characters to the forefront of the Human-Covenant struggle. “Halo 3: ODST’s” tale will focus on the legendary ODSTs or “Orbital Drop Shock Troopers” as they drop into the ruined city of New Mombasa, looking for clues behind the Covenant’s catastrophic attack on the city. We’ll be sharing more about “Halo 3: ODST” and the ODST characters in the near future.
